WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) today voted for legislation that will better protect consumers from abusive practices by the credit card industry.  Earlier today, the House voted to move up the start date of many provisions in the Credit CARD Act, effectively limiting last-minute gouging by the credit card industry before the full law takes effect.  Once implemented, the Credit CARD Act will create new regulations for credit card companies and empower consumers by equipping them with the tools they need to manage their own credit. 

Legislation Would Help Guarantee Funding for California Families, Communities Affected by Earthquakes and Other Natural Disasters.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) today introduced legislation that would help more Californians protect themselves against earthquakes and other natural disasters.  H.R. 4014, the Catastrophe Obligation Guarantee Act of 2009, would ensure that the state of California provides families and communities with sufficient insurance options - both public and private - to cover losses associated with natural disasters.  While introduced as a stand-alone bill, this legislation may also be incorporated into H.R. 2555, the Homeowner Defense Act, led by Rep. Ron Klein of Florida.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Yesterday, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) voted for legislation that will help restore and protect California's air, water, and public lands. The Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations conference report will increase funding for clean water and wildfire preparedness programs that are especially important in Orange County and California.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) today applauded House passage of the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2010, which would authorize $10 billion in funding to help the Coast Guard carry out its homeland and maritime security missions.  The bill includes key provisions to boost the overall number of Coast Guard members, and gives law enforcement stronger tools to combat alien smuggling and potential terrorist acts.
